Our Story
Yum Yum Chinese Restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it is the culmination of decades of passion, family dedication, and a love for authentic Chinese cuisine that warms the heart with every bite.
Chef Phillip Mah began his culinary journey as a young teenager, side by side with his two brothers, Ken Ma and Don Ma, in the bustling kitchen of Janbo's on the west side of Evansville. Those early days were filled with laughter, hard work, and countless lessons in discipline, precision, and the joy of feeding others; lessons that would shape every dish he would create in the years to come
As Phillip and his wife Ying grew their own family, they dreamed of crafting a restaurant that reflected their own vision and values. This dream took root in Princeton, Kentucky, where they opened Great Wall. There, they began perfecting a style that married authentic Chinese flavors with a warm, family-centered dining experience, a place where every guest felt like they were walking into the heart of someone's home.
Family remained at the center of their lives, and Phillip and Ying returned to Evansville to be closer to loved ones. Their belief that meals are more than food, they are moments shared, memories created, and connections strengthened, guided their next venture: Mandarin Garden. Each dish was prepared with care, patience, and the intention of bringing people together, table by table.
In 2018, Yum Yum Chinese Restaurant opened its doors in Henderson, Kentucky. Here, Phillip and Ying combined their years of experience, love for tradition, and a touch of creative flair to offer more than just food; they created a space where the community could gather, celebrate, and feel at home. From the crispy spring rolls to the sizzling entrees, every bite tells a story of dedication, resilience, and heart.
